Animal cloning (Dolly the sheep): uses in research

Also: Dolly, somatic cell nuclear transfer, SCNT, cloned mammals

Cloning by nuclear transfer puts the nucleus of a body cell into an egg cell. Dolly the sheep (born 1996, reported 1997) was the first mammal cloned from an adult cell. Later work cloned mice and monkeys.
