Controlling sound with metamaterials

Cummer, Christensen and Alù reviewed acoustic metamaterials for controlling sound.

As reported in: Cummer, Christensen, Alù (2016). Controlling sound with acoustic metamaterials. Nature Reviews Materials. doi:10.1038/natrevmats.2016.1

Locally resonant sonic materials

Liu and colleagues built sonic crystals of small resonators that block sound at wavelengths 100 times their spacing; a 2 cm slab beat the normal mass law of sound transmission by an order of magnitude or more at 400 Hz.

As reported in: Liu, Zhang, Mao et al. (2000). Locally Resonant Sonic Materials. Science. doi:10.1126/science.289.5485.1734
